WhatsApp Job Offer Scam: Check It in 60 Seconds

Use this check if an unknown person has contacted you on WhatsApp about a job, especially if they claim to represent a recruiter or well-known company. The same defense applies when the conversation is moved to Telegram or another private chat. A typical message may say: “We recruit for a well-known company. Your task is to like, rate, subscribe to, or boost listings. Move to this private chat to continue.”

Decide what to do now

1. Do not reply, click, pay, or complete a task. Pause even if the sender promises work, payment, or an easy way to earn money.
2. Check whether you applied for this exact role. Search your email and application history; an unsolicited offer for a job you never pursued is a strong warning sign.
3. Verify the vacancy independently. Type the claimed company’s official website address yourself, check its careers page, and contact the company through a published phone number or email—not details supplied in the chat.
4. Inspect the work itself. Treat liking, rating, subscribing, or boosting listings as task-scam indicators rather than normal recruitment duties.
5. Refuse any move designed to isolate you. Do not continue in a private Telegram group or separate chat where the sender can pressure you without normal company oversight.
6. Save evidence, then report and block. Capture the sender’s number, profile, message history, claimed employer, and any payment instructions before using WhatsApp’s reporting controls.

If you already responded

Stop the conversation and do not send further personal details, identity documents, verification codes, or money. A simple reply does not require continued engagement. If you paid, contact your bank or payment provider immediately and ask whether the transfer can be stopped or disputed. If you shared account credentials, change the affected password through the service’s official site and secure any other account using the same password. Keep screenshots and report the account to WhatsApp or Telegram. Also notify the impersonated company through its official contact channel so it can confirm the fraud and warn other applicants.
